One hour is the building block of most schedules, and a truly focused hour can get more done than a scattered afternoon. The countdown on this page is already set to 60 minutes and starts with one click or the Space bar. Keep it in the corner of your screen with the floating mini timer and let the alarm close the hour.
Time blocking, one hour at a time
Time blocking means turning your to-do list into calendar slots: 9 to 10 for the report, 10 to 11 for email and calls, and so on. A 60 minute timer makes each block real. Start the countdown when the block begins, and when it rings, move on, even if the task is not perfect. Over time you get a much better sense of how long things actually take.
Some people call this a "power hour": one hour dedicated to a single project or a batch of postponed tasks, with notifications off and the phone out of reach.
Practice exams under real time pressure
Many exams and exam sections are timed in hours, and practicing with a real countdown is one of the most useful ways to prepare. You learn to pace yourself, to move on from a question that is eating your time, and to keep a few minutes at the end to check your answers.
For an exam simulation, put the timer in fullscreen, turn off music or keep only a light white noise layer, and resist the "+1 min" button: the real exam will not give you extra time.
More ways to use a 60-minute countdown
- A long workout: a run, a spin session, a full strength routine or a yoga class.
- A focused project hour on a side project, a portfolio or a thesis.
- Deep cleaning or decluttering one room from start to finish.
- An hour of reading, writing or learning a new skill in the evening.
- Kitchen tasks with a long wait, like letting dough rise or roasting a chicken.
How the Pomodoro timer works

- 22

Press Start (or the Space bar) and give the task your full attention until the bell rings.
- 33
Take a real break

Frequently asked questions
How do I set a timer for 1 hour?
The countdown here is already set to 60 minutes: press Start or the Space bar. On any countdown you can also click the 1 h chip or type 60 in the minutes field.
Is a 1 hour timer the same as a 60 minute timer?
Yes, it is exactly the same countdown. The browser tab title shows the remaining time so you can check it at a glance from any other tab.
Will the timer stay accurate if my laptop goes to sleep?
Yes. The countdown stays accurate through sleep, background tabs and page reloads, so the remaining time is correct when you come back.
Should I take a break during a one-hour session?
For a single hour of focused work, many people work straight through and rest afterward. If you prefer a pause in the middle, the Pomodoro timer on the home page alternates work and breaks automatically.
